Re: Notification of Additional Cases

Grade 6 COVID Cases

We learned over the weekend of an additional Grade 6 student who tested positive for COVID.   This case does not appear to be connected to the case communicated at the end of last week.  We learned of this new case from the parent who had not, at that time, heard from LCDOH or the NYS Contact Tracers.  Based upon the information provided to us by the family, we began gathering  additional information and were able to proactively communicate with potentially involved families yesterday.   Upon our arrival at school this morning, we were officially informed of the case via the Health Department’s communication system.

The collective contact tracing confirmed 3 additional close contacts to the new case.  These families have been officially notified of the close contact status.  In the follow-up communication with families, we learned that one of the close contacts has now also tested positive along with a sibling.  Due to the dates of symptoms and testing, there are no additional school-based close contacts at this time.

Grade 3 COVID Case

We were also notified today of a Grade 3 positive.  Due to the dates of attendance and the date of symptoms, there  are no additional close contacts at school.

Continued Support

Reducing the spread of COVID continues to take all of us working together.  The ThoughtExchange conducted in August with the ACS community revealed a clear collective preference for staying open for in-person instruction 5 days per week.  To help accomplish this, we are doing what we can to control the controllable factors.  In these first few weeks, we’ve learned that close contacts are emerging in the cafeteria and on transportation.  We will continue to review our practices to see if we can find reasonable methods  to reduce potential contact in these areas.  Please know that when we learn of cases, our priority is to communicate with the impacted families and students.

Thank you for your continued support.  It seems unreal, at times, that we are still in this pandemic.   Yet, it has not ended.  There remains risk to be managed.   While community spread is present, there remain some practical risk-management strategies.   Please continue to be mindful of symptoms.  Students should not attend school if they are sick or demonstrating symptoms.
