Welcome to the Homeschool webpage for the Avon Central School District.  Here you can find helpful information regarding the NYS Home Instruction requirements, laws and regulations, templates, and resources.

Guildelines to Homeschooling:

  1. Mail or email your Letter of Intent (LOI) to Homeschool to the Homeschool Coordinator or Secretary by July 1st. Please include your child(ren)'s name, date of birth, grade level, and intended academic year.

  2. Following your LOI, an Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP) and Annual Plan for Instruction & Evaluation (APIE) must be submitted to the district by August 15th. The IHIP must provide the dates you intend to submit your child(ren)'s Quarterly Reports; typically, November, January, April, and June.

  3. Submit the Quarterly Reports, as they are due, per the IHIP. These reports should include the total amount of hours spent on homeschooling for the quarter, a description of the material/subjects covered, and either a grade in each subject based on performance, or a written narrative evaluating your child's progress.

  4. At the end of the year, NYS requires students to take an Annual Assessment to determine their academic progress. The exam should be filed at the time of the 4th Quarterly Report. For a list of the assessments you may provide, please see the Commissioner's Regulation for Home Instruction 100.10 subdivision (h).
