Sophomore Abby S.’s foreshortened self portrait in pen was named best in show.

Avon students collected nine awards at the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts’ annual Scholastic Art Show, which wrapped up earlier this month at GVCA’s gallery space on Livingston County’s Murray Hill Campus in Mount Morris.

This year’s show featured hundreds of submissions across more than a dozen categories from student artists attending 12 local school districts.

Avon students working under teachers Elizabeth Patteson and Danielle Howard submitted more than three dozen pieces for consideration.

Student artists from Avon whose works were recognized at the show were:

  • Sophomore Abby S.’s foreshortened self portrait in pen was named best in show.

  • Olivia P., a senior, took first place in the printmaking category for her etching showing a library patron, back turned to the viewer, surveying a shelf of books. Olivia’s submission in the painting category also received an honorable mention recognition and earned the Director’s Choice Award. The painting shows two versions of Olivia - the older one working on a painting on the right, looking at the younger version, coloring a picture with markers, on the left.

  • Kyleigh V., a senior, won in the film photography category for her photograph of a caged bird feeder.

  • Junior Ella O. took second place in the printmaking category for her series of three etchings of a dragonfly.

  • Junior Maggie V. earned an honorable mention recognition in the drawing category with her piece depicting a trio of 3s in the style of mylar balloons.

  • Gracie W., a freshman, received an honorable mention in the studio art category for her collage of a cow.
