Avon captured the Section V Class B2 title last night with a 2-1 win over Wellsville, avenging a 1-2 loss to the Lions in last year’s B2 final.

Avon got on the board first as a groundout by junior Rylie M. sent junior Payton R. home in the top of the third.

A leadoff homer from freshman Avery B. in the sixth pushed the Hawks’ lead to 2-0.

Wellsville cut their deficit to a single run in the bottom of the sixth as a base hit from Brynn Hallock scored Teagan Burke, but pitcher Jessie C. took care of business in the seventh, striking out the final three Wellsville batters to secure a Hawks win.

Jessie struck out 16 on the day, allowed just one run and was named MVP of the B2 tournament, helping lead Avon to its first sectional title since 2022, when big sister Joleigh put up an MVP performance to lead Avon to the C1 title with a 2-1 win over Bloomfield. 

With the win, the Hawks now turn their attention to Class B1 champion Waterloo.

The two squads will face off Monday, June 1 at Honeoye Falls-Lima for a spot in the state tournament.
