11 earn 'Scholastic Art Show' awards

We're proud to announce that 12 of our high school students earned awards at the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts’ annual Scholastic Art Show! 


The show, which wrapped up its 2026 edition in April after a month on display at the GVCA Gallery in Mount Morris, draws hundreds of artworks from dozens of students across Livingston County’s 10 public school districts.


Students from Avon whose works were recognized were: 

Junior Rylie M. earned an honorable mention recognition in the studio art category for her landscape collage, above.

Caitlin M., a junior, was awarded an honorable mention recognition in the photography category for her extreme close up image of cactus needles, above.

Junior Lucy B. was recognized with an honorable mention in the photography category for her shot of a dog looking away into the distance, above.

In the printmaking category, junior Lucy M. took home second place for her artwork of a purple fish, above. 


Sophomore Finn R.’s drawing of a bear scratching its back against a tree, shown above, took second place in the drawing category.


Mason C., a senior, took home an honorable mention in the painting category for his piece depicting the bow of a kayak working its way through water, shown above. 

Senior Addi R. took home two awards - the first an honorable mention recognition for her painting of a lava lamp and the second a third place ribbon for her drawing of a cat. Both are shown above. 

In the drawing category, Jessie C., a senior, received an honorable mention recognition for her drawing of a cat, above. 

Senior Olivia S.’s quadriptych of a dog shown above earned an honorable mention in the painting category. 

Kaitlyn H., a senior earned third place in printmaking for her series of etchings showing the exterior of a house, a tree and a flower, above. 


Senior Leila L. was presented with the Director’s Choice Award for her drawing of Grecian figure wrapped in a flowing piece of cloth, above.
