Girls lax wraps regular season on 11-game win streak
The Avon-Livonia-Geneseo Lakers finished their regular season at 14-2 and on an 11-game winning streak into postseason play after a 21-4 win over Lockport on senior night Friday.
The Lakers came out strong, outscoring Lockport 16-3 in the first half before closing out the night with a 5-1 second half. The team controlled possession all game long, winning draw controls 18-10 and ground balls 28-18. Maddie W. led the draw unit with 7 draw controls, while Ari S. added 4 and both Lily R. (12th) and Sidney C. finished with 3 each.
Defensively, Gabby P., Maddie W., Emma W., and Sidney C. each had 4 ground balls. Penny S. and Annabelle R. added 3 each, while Annabelle continued to shine in goal with 4 saves and a 50% save percentage. Her confidence and consistency continue to grow every game.
The Lakers offense was rolling with 8 different goal scorers and 11 assisted goals on the night. Sidney C. led the way with 6 goals, while Lily R. (12th) and Arianna S. each added 4. Maddie W. scored 3 goals, including the 200th goal of her varsity career. Kearstin S., Chloe N., Madelyn R., and Emma W. also found the back of the net, with Emma adding an impressive coast-to-coast goal.
Lily R. (12th) also made history with 5 assists, bringing her career total to 133 and moving her into 2nd all-time in program history for career assists, surpassing Taryn VanThof’s mark from 2010. She now trails only Taylor VanThof on the all-time leaderboard. Maddie W. and Sidney C. each added 2 assists, while Kearstin S. and Ari S. each had 1.
Seven of the Lakers’ nine seniors scored on senior night, making it an unforgettable evening for a group that has meant so much to the program. This team continues to play for each other every single game, and their chemistry, energy, and support for one another shows every time they step on the field.
The Lakers finish the regular season as the No. 2 seed in Class C and are ready for postseason play.
