SIGNING DAY: Avon athletes announce college commitments
Monday was a special day here at Avon Central Schools as 10 of our soon-to-be alumni signed letters of intent to further their athletic and academic careers at local - and not so local - institutes of higher learning in the fall!
Follow along with us below as we highlight each of our 10 seniors, tell you a bit about their future plans and congratulate this impressive group of student athletes on this exciting next step in their young lives!
Evan was a 3-year varsity team member for the Hawks and a two-year starter.
A knee injury suffered during Avon’s week 3 game against Oakfield-Alabama/Elba brought Evan’s 2024-25 season to a premature end but he made up for lost time right from the get-go during his senior season, leading the Hawks to a 9-3 record and a second straight sectional title.
He ends his high school football career as a two-time sectional champion (2024, 2025) with 2,412 passing yards and 29 passing touchdowns, almost all of which he amassed during his senior season.
Congratulations, Evan!
FUTURE GOLDEN FLYER: Anna W. is Nazareth-University bound. She plans on studying business and playing volleyball for the Golden Flyers, who compete in the NCAA Division III Empire 8 Conference.
A four-year starter for the Hawks, Anna ends her high school career as a two-time Section V Class C1 finalist (2024-2025) with 138 aces, 464 digs and 442 kills.
Congratulations, Anna!
FUTURE BEAR: Violet P. is headed north to SUNY Potsdam in the fall. She plans on studying psychology and playing volleyball for the Bears.
During her four-year varsity career here in Avon, Violet amassed 143 aces, 391 digs, 255 kills and 47 blocks while helping the Hawks to two straight Section V Class C2 finals berths in 2024 and 2025.
Congratulations, Violet!
FUTURE KNIGHT: Maria G. is headed to SUNY Geneseo where she plans on majoring in elementary education and special education and competing in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track for the Knights, who compete in the NCAA Division III Empire 8 Conference.
Maria was a 5-year varsity member for our cross country program. Her top results came during her senior session in 2025 when she took 6th place in the Section V Class D Championships with a time of 20:11.3. Her performance earned her a spot at the New York State Cross Country Championships in Glens Falls where she completed the championship course in a time of 20:46.2, good enough for 32nd in the state in Class D.
In outdoor track, Maria’s a three-time, top-five sectional finisher (5th in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, 2023; 5th in the 4x800-meter relay, 2024; 2nd in the 4x800-meter relay, 2025).
She owns Avon’s school record in the 2,000-meter steeplechase (10:55.13) and is currently ranked among the top 5 in Section V Class C2 in a handful of running events including the 3,000-meter run (3rd), the 800-meter run (3rd), the 1,500-meter run (5th), the 4x800-meter relay (1st) and the 4x400-meter relay (3rd).
Congratulations, Maria!
FUTURE GCC COUGAR: Emma V. is attending Genesee Community College in the fall to study business administration and play volleyball for the Cougars.
A four-year player with our varsity volleyball team, Emma ends her high school career as a two-time Section V Class C1 finalist (2024-2025) with 262 kills, 51 aces, 66 digs and 117 blocks.
Congratulations, Emma!
FUTURE SAINT: Aidan. L will attend Buffalo’s D’Youville University in the fall. He plans on studying business management and playing sprint football for the Saints, who compete in Division II Collegiate Sprint Football League.
Aidan played 2 years on varsity here in Avon at the linebacker position and on the offensive line. He ends his high school career with 77 total tackles and as a two-time sectional champion (2024-2025).
Congratulations, Aidan!
FUTURE SAINT: Blayden B. will major in business management at Buffalo’s D’Youville University in the fall. He plans on playing sprint football for the Saints, who compete in Division II Collegiate Sprint Football League.
Blayden was a 3-year member of our varsity program and played both ways for the Hawks, primarily at the receiver and linebacker positions.
A two-time sectional champion (2024-2025), he ends his high school career with 536 receiving yards, 4 receiving touchdowns and 176 total tackles.
Congratulations, Blayden!
FUTURE EAGLE: Jessie C.’s headed to Florida Gulf Coast University in the fall and will play softball for the Eagles, who compete in the NCAA Division I’s Atlantic Sun Conference.
Back in November, before the start of her senior softball season when she signed her official National Letter of Intent, Jessie was already one of, if not the most accomplished softball player in school history.
Now nearing the end of her senior season, Jessie’s only put distance between herself and the rest of the pack.
As of this writing, she has a career batting average of .475 and is batting a whopping .556 this season. Since her 7th grade season, she’s totaled 154 hits, scored 133 runs and driven in 89 RBIs.
But for all her batting prowess it’s on the mound, perhaps, where Jessie’s had the most impact for Avon. In five years pitching for the River Hawks - she threw her first game as an eighth grader - Jessie is 53-20, has recorded a school record 1,109 strikeouts to just 114 walks across 516 innings and posted an ERA of 0.70.
Congratulations, Jessie!
FUTURE GOLDEN EAGLE: Kellan S. is bound for SUNY Brockport where he’ll study environmental science and play football for the Golden Eagles, who compete in the NCAA Division III Empire 8 Conference.
Kellan was a three-year varsity member here in Avon and played both sides of the ball at the tackle, guard and defensive end positions.
He is a two-time sectional champion (2024-2025) with the Hawks and ends his high school career with 78 total tackles.
“Kellan was a big force for us up front on the o-line and was a big reason for our team’s high level of success over the past few years,” said Football coach Andy Englert. “During his time here in Avon, he always found a way to improve and build on his past performance season after season and I have no doubt he’ll do the same in the fall as a Golden Eagle.”
Congratulations, Kellan!
FUTURE HIGHLANDER: In the fall, Olivia S. plans on attending Houghton University where she’ll study environmental science and play soccer for the Highlanders, who compete in the NCAA Division III Empire 8 Conference.
Olivia was a consistent presence between the posts for Avon, recording 315 saves over the course of her three years on varsity.
Congratulations, Liv!
And that’s a wrap on our Avon River Hawk Signing Day Rundown!
Let’s hear it one more time for Evan B., Anna W., Violet P., Maria G., Emma V., Aidan L., Blayden B., Jessie C., Kellan S. and Olivia S.
They’ve opted for the hard road, one marked by early mornings, late nights, physical pain and mental exhaustion, all for a chance to compete - and win - in the sports they love.
We’re proud of all they’ve achieved here in Avon and can’t wait to see the new heights they reach in the future.
Go get ‘em, Hawks!
