Posted Date: 04/16/26 (12:53 PM)

Your Avon River Hawks kicked off their 2026 track and field season at home last night against Caledonia-Mumford.

Our varsity boys squad got the easy, 102-30 win, with 18 individual scorers and 24 career best performances.

Leading the boys was Elijah R., who scored in all of his events and earned the team 18 points.

Backing him up, also scoring in all of their events, were:

• Blayden B. (16 points)

• Luigi M. (16 points)

• Francesco M. (15 points)

• Robert B. (14 points)

• Dylan H. (11 points)

• Brice B (9 points)

• Owen H. (9 points)

Christopher G. and Theodore R. lead our boys squad in throws, scoring in both shot put and discus.

Debuting in their first ever varsity meet were Cameron D. and Camera G., who both scored in their sprinting events.

Our girls squad put up a tough fight, but fell just short to the Raiders with a final score of 62-69.

The girls had 11 point scorers for the team and seven career best performances.

The Hawks were led by dynamic (and sisterly) duo of Maria and Emma G., who both scored first place in all their individual events and earned 15 points apiece for the team.

Mollie G. also had an outstanding day, scoring first place in three of her events and also earning 15 points.

Other big point scorers were Elena G. (13 points) and Abigail C. (8 points).

Debuting in their first ever varsity track meet was eighth graders Baylee G. and sophomore Kloe G., who both scored points for the Hawks - Baylee off an amazing shot put throw and Kloe in the 800-meter run.

“We're so excited for the girls and boys team this year - they've more than proven their talent and tenacity already in the first meet of the season,” said Head Coach Samantha Walker. “We're looking forward to seeing more personal bests and more standout performances as the season unfolds.”
