Girls lacrosse now 3-0 with win over Wayne
The Avon-Livonia-Geneseo Lakers were in control from the start Wednesday night, earning a strong 15-4 road win over Wayne. Leading 5–2 after the first quarter, the momentum never shifted as the Lakers continued to separate themselves each quarter, outscoring the Eagles 3–1 in the second, 3–1 in the third, and closing things out with a dominant 4–0 fourth quarter.
A complete team effort fueled the win, highlighted by outstanding ball movement and possession. The Lakers finished with a 25–14 advantage in ground balls and an impressive 80% assist rate, with 12 of their 15 goals coming off assists, showcasing unselfish play and strong offensive chemistry.
Offensively, the Lakers were led by Sidney C. with 3 goals and 4 assists, while Maddie W. added 4 goals and 3 assists. Lily R. (12th) contributed 4 goals and 3 assists along with 6 draw controls, and Ari S. chipped in 1 goal and 2 assists. Additional scoring came from Peyton J., Evie W., and Kearstin S., each finding the back of the net.
Defensively and in transition, the Lakers made their presence known. Ari S. led the way with 4 ground balls and 4 caused turnovers, while Lily R. (10th) added 3 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers. Natalie G. contributed 2 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers, and strong support came from Katie O., Penny S., and Gabby P. with key ground balls.
In goal, freshman Annabelle R. delivered a standout performance with 7 saves, a 64% save percentage, and just 4 goals allowed, while also adding 3 ground balls.
Player of the Game was Anabelle R., while Penny S. and Peyton J. were named co-Chief Energy Officers.
With the win, the Lakers moved to 3-0 on the season and are next in action in Avon tonight - Thursday, April 16 - against Palmyra-Macedon. Game time is 6 p.m.
