Posted Date: 03/02/26 (02:54 PM)

Sophomores Connor D. and James C. both nabbed top 3 finishes this weekend at the New York State Wrestling Championships in Albany.

Competing in the 103-lb Division II bracket, Connor, the #3 seed, went 3-0 through his opening round matches to book his spot in the championship match against #4 seed Drew Telesky of Sherburne-Earlville.

Connor had a 5-1 lead heading into the third round, but was taken down to his back by Telesky, giving up 7 points in the process. Connor scored a point off an escape and another on a stalling penalty against Telesky, but ran out of time and lost the 8-7 decision to finish in second place.

The #6 seed at 144 lbs, James C. won his opening round match against #11 seed Zenon Derocha of Hannibal and upset #3 seed Justin Somers of Walton/Delaware Academy in the quarterfinals.

He lost his semifinal match to Cobleskill/Richmondville’s Ashten Haley via decision (7-3), but won his consolation semifinal over Alex Southworth of Miller Place (7-0 decision) and his consolation final again over Justin Somers of Walton/Delaware Academy (7-1 decision) to finish in 3rd place in the division.

Congratulations to Connor and James on an incredible tournament and season!
