WATCH NOW: High school engineering students wrap work on Rube Goldberg Machine

Posted Date: 01/23/26 (02:36 PM)

Mr. Mike Dale’s second period principles of engineering class recently wrapped work on their very own Rube Goldberg machine!

Popularized by turn-of-the-century cartoonist Rube Goldberg, his namesake machines rely on overly complicated and intricate mechanisms to achieve highly simplistic and basic tasks.

The machine Dale’s class designed, for instance, utilizes a series of toy cars, dominos, marbles, a mouse trap (plus a whole lot of tape and cardboard) to shoot a tennis ball through a hoop.

Dale’s students moved their creation - along with an explanation of all the simple machines it makes use of - to our High School Library earlier this week, where it’ll remain for the foreseeable future so our students can explore the machine and learn a bit more about what it took to build!

A tip of the cap to Dale’s POE students - Wyatt G., Jameson H., Ronan M., John H., Francesco M., Quinn D., Cameron G., Landon D. and Phranke R. - on a job well done!

Check out the machine in action over in the video below!
