Creative Writing students explore Avon's past
Students in Mrs. Cordula Kennell’s creative writing class and members of the Avont Garde literary magazine club headed over to the Avon Preservation & Historical Society Friday morning to learn a bit about the town’s early history.
Before heading over, they stopped at the Village Restaurant for a spot of breakfast where, as luck would have it, they were waiting on by 2010 Avon alum Joshua Matusak, himself a former creative writing student and Avont Garde member!
After arriving at the society, students heard from Rhonda LaFever, curator of the society’s in-house museum on Genesee Street, who presented on Avon’s early history, schools, artifacts from around the town as well as and history of some of area’s older homes.
Our students collected information and conducted a bit of research for a future project, writing an historical fiction piece set in Avon.
Thank you to the Avon Preservation & Historical Society for hosting us!
