Our girls varsity track and field team lost both its meets in Dansville Wednesday, falling to Caledonia-Mumford 71-65 and the Mustangs, 88-52.
The Hawks swept the relays against the Raiders, but it wasn't enough.
"You learn more about yourself on the tough days than the easy ones. That meet was a tough one," said Head Coach Josh Williams. "The effort of our girls competing was extraordinary, simply extraordinary. The girls competing were all-in and you can't ask for more than that."
On the bright side, there were numerous PR's and athletes stepped up when needed.
We have some incredible talent coming up through the program - 7th grader Emma G. prominent among them.
Emma had an incredible meet, setting a PR in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:16 and the 400-meter run with a time of 1:12. Lilianna B. also gutted out an impressive day in her 1,500- and the 800-meter events.
Mollie G. won the 100-meter hurdles, scored in the long and triple jumps and was part of the meet-winning 4x400-meter relay team along with Megan K., Emma G. and Maria G. (4:52).
Maria G also set a season's best in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 12:05. Also scoring for their first points of the season was Savannah S. and Quinn F., who were part of the 4x100-meter relay team.
The Hawks are now 1-2 overall on the season. THey’re next in action tonight - Friday, May 2 - at the Caledonia-Mumford Invitational. Events start at 5 p.m.
Go Hawks!
