3rd graders channel Van Gogh with sunflower still life project

Mrs. Mackenzie Stickel’s third graders got started on their still life sunflower projects today during art class down at Avon Elementary School.

After talking to her students about still lifes and Vincent Van Gogh, whose sunflower still life series are among the Dutch painter’s most famous works, Art Teacher Ms. Emma Kostraba set students to work on sketching vases, stems, flowers and leaves using sunflowers in vases on the table in front of them as reference. 

Next class, they’ll continue adding detail to their sketches before eventually adding color.

Many thanks to Ms. Kostraba for letting us stop by today and a job well done to Mrs. Stickel’s third graders - we can’t wait to see those finished still life paintings!
