HIGH SCHOOL

The instructional facilities in the High School include classrooms that house all 9-12 students with a computer in each classroom, three computer labs, a state of the art library, four newly renovated and equipped science classrooms and science labs, an acoustical band and chorus room with practice rooms, and one art studio.

Within this facility, are included a school counseling/career suite, a 600 capacity auditorium shared with the Middle School, a newly renovated cafeteria that seats 194 students, a swimming pool, a fitness room, a project adventure course, a wrestling/aerobics education station and a 1000 seat gymnasium (including physical education stations with individual locker rooms). 

The school campus has a football stadium with a 6-lane track, soccer fields, 1 baseball field, 1 softball field and 4 tennis courts.  Programs

The Avon High School’s primary focus is on high academic standards, while attending to the needs of all students as they begin to make decisions that will impact their lives and future choices in a safe and healthy environment.

 

Curriculum

The High School curriculum addresses the content rich and challenging opportunities needed to provide students the opportunities to compete in a global society.

They are provided with a comprehensive program that allows opportunities to enhance their knowledge in the areas of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Technology, Engineering, Computers, Health, Business, Music, Art and Physical Education.

Students demonstrate their learning and its connection to the world outside of school through school to work initiatives, vocational education, and other opportunities afforded to them. 

Avon High School provides students the opportunity to pursue higher level learning by offering Advanced Placement courses in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  The District partners with local community colleges, universities and technical colleges to provide college credit opportunities in defined courses.  Instruction

A variety of teaching strategies are incorporated into the academic day.  Differentiated instruction, cooperative learning groups, and reteaching and tutoring are employed to meet the diverse learning styles of individual students.

 

Student Support Services

Student support services are available to help students deal with educational, health, and social concerns related to school and home.  Support personnel include: school counselors, school psychologist, school social worker, school nurse and school resource officer.  

Quality Staff Committed to Excellence

Our staff is dedicated to educating all students.  They provide quality instruction as they build the foundation for future learning.  The staff is committed to academic excellence. They participate in professional staff development programs offered through the local Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES), educational programs offered at area Higher Educational Institutions, and conferences focused on teaching and student learning.

Enriched Extra-Curricular Activities

The role of enriched extra-curricular activities at Avon Central Schools is to focus on enhancing the self-esteem of students; developing individuals’ interests, social skills, physical skills, and competitive ethics; and fostering an appreciation for lifelong learning.  A broad spectrum of clubs, organizations and activities provide students with the opportunity to pursue special interests and develop individual talents.  Our programs provide a source of pride and motivation for lifelong success.  Our district has set high goals and standards for students to strive to achieve success while maintaining a balanced perspective on school and life.   Athletics

 

An extensive offering of athletic activities is available to the students attending Avon Central Schools:  baseball, softball, track, golf, tennis, football, cheerleading, swimming diving, soccer, cross country, volleyball, basket ball, and wrestling.  Participation in these activities encourages students to establish long-term fitness habits while learning the values of fair play, honesty, discipline, and how to lose as well as win.

 

Music

The highly developed music program has established an outstanding reputation and attracts a great number of talented students.  Participation begins at the elementary grades and continues throughout the students’ school career.  The opportunity for individual instruction prepares students to perform at the local, county, state and national levels in the following ways: solo festivals, all county, area all state, band musicals, seasonal concerts, community/school holiday concerts, and opportunities to attend professional productions and performances.

 

Fine Arts / Drama

Students K-12 are able to enrich their artistic talents and apply their creative energies through participation in Drama and the Arts.  Drama opportunities allow students to use boundless imagination to improve acting skills and learn about activities that go on behind the scenes.  Students learn the technical and aesthetic aspects of painting, sculpturing and design. Students display their artistic talents throughout the year culminating in participation in annual art fairs and competitions.

Involved Parents Make A Difference

Parents are provided a multitude of opportunities to be involved in their child’s education. Parents are highly encouraged to be involved in their child’s education, support their children’s learning at home, and be an active member of the Shared Decision Making Team.  This affords parents the opportunity to help shape future and existing programs and initiatives. A very active Parent Teacher Association lends support to the various programs in the school through volunteering, fundraising, and providing educational and informational programs for students and parents.

Avon Central Schools have regular and frequent communication between school and family through open houses, parent-teacher conferences, five week and ten week reports, and through telephone and electronic communication.  Our web page is a growing area for communication to our families.  Parents may complete the necessary paperwork to have online assess to their child’s records at anytime.

Together this partnership has accepted the responsibility for the education of our students to prepare them for success in life. The Avon Community takes great pride in the school system and supports excellent community sponsored educational and recreational programs for its students: Fire Prevention Safety, Alcohol and Substance Abuse Awareness, Community Recreation Program, Community Sponsored Clubs and Organizations, and Recreational Activities.  School, businesses and higher education institutions link together to provide opportunities for real world experiences.
