Avon Learning Community,

The start of every school year always seems to be accompanied with a stack of paper forms that need to be filled out and returned to school. We are pleased to offer you the opportunity to take care of one of these forms in an on-line fashion beginning this year.

The Avon Central School District - Student/Parent Technology Handbook is a product of many hours of work of the District Technology Committee. The committee is composed of students, technology staff, teachers, administration, community members, and a member of the Board of Education. This committee conducted site visits and reviewed policies and procedures of many other districts in the construction of our current handbook. The handbook outlines procedures that are intended to protect your children while adhering to a high standard of digital citizenship.

The handbook can be found here: http://www.avoncsd.org/departments.cfm?subpage=34723

Please review the Student/Parent Technology Handbook with your child(ren.) We are asking Parents/Guardians to complete one form per school aged child at the start of each year.

After reviewing the handbook with your children, please complete the Avon CSD Acceptable Use Policy & Student Device Acceptance - Parent Form found on this page: http://www.avoncsd.org/departments.cfm?subpage=34723

Please note that we are offering the optional chromebook insurance to all families this year. We are doing this in light of the following:

  • Students in grades 6-12 will be taking their district issued chromebooks to and from school each day.

  • During the 2019-2020 school year we handed out the chromebooks in a very rushed time-line. Doing this did not allow us the time to offer the insurance to grades K-8. Offering the insurance now may offer additional protection if the district is required to implement full remote learning once again for all grade levels.

(Information for the optional insurance can be found on pages 15-16 of the handbook.)

In addition you will need the Model and Serial number of the chromebook to sign up for the insurance. These are located on the back of every device. If you are having trouble finding these, please contact Jim Ellis @ jimellis@avoncsd.org. (A sheet with Model and Serial numbers will be sent home for grades K-6.)

Students:

  • K-5 students will review the handbook with their teachers as part of digital citizenship lessons during the school year. In addition we ask that you review the handbook in an age appropriate fashion.

  • 6-12 students will be required to complete the forms with their teachers as a digital citizenship lesson at the start of each school year (or upon entering the district.) Students may also complete the form independently if they prefer.

If you have already handed in a paper form this year you do not need to complete this on-line form.
