Runners (and walkers) participate in Avon Central Schools’ inaugural Veterans Day 5K Race/Walk Nov. 12. The race drew 114 registrants and raised $1,000 for the Livingston County Department of Veterans Services.

More than 100 racers ran their way to raising about $1,000 for Livingston County’s Veterans Services Department last month during Avon Central Schools’ inaugural veterans Day 5K Race/Walk.

“Our goal for this first year was to get 100 runners and when it was all said and done, we had 114 registered for the race,” said High School Principal Ryan Wagner, one of the race organizers. “Our community has a lot to be proud of and we’re already looking forward to next year’s race which we can hopefully make even bigger so we can raise more money and help more veterans.”

In the mens’ race, the top three finishers in the 5K were Jordan M. (18:53), Sam W. (18:54) and Jackson P. (19:30).

In the women’s race, Maria G. took first (21:43), Stephanie S. took second (21:51) and Amy W. took third (26:15).

Brooks T. was the winner of the children’s 800-meter Fun Run while Sophie T. was the first to cross the finish line on the girls side.
