Avon’s cross country runners are pictured Saturday morning following the Section V Cross Country Championships at Letchworth State Park.

LETCHWORTH STATE PARK - Avon’s cross country team wrapped up their 2022 season with a strong sectional showing after improving through the year.

It was a highly competitive race in Class D1 with Arkport-Canaseraga winning the boys division and Addison winning the Class D girls title

Avon was 14th overall in the boys Class D race out of 35 schools participating. The team averaged a time of 20:26 with an average pace of 6:35 minutes per mile.

Finn S. was 16th in Class D and 87th out of all 454 Section V boys runners. After a first mile time of 5:35 and in 27th place, Finn put his foot on the pedal to finish 16th with a final time of 18:12.4.

Another strong performer for the Braves was Aiden W., who ran a season-best time of of 20:59.4. After a first mile time of 6:29 and in 120th overall, Aiden worked his way up to 99th place by the end of the race.

On the girls side, the Braves were 10th in Class D out of 34 schools participating. The team had an overall average of 24:12 with an average pace per mile of 7:48.

Maria G. won a sectional patch with a time of 21:56 and a 15th place finish. She was 67th overall out of 360 runners.

Taylen B. was consistent as always at 24:30 and after hitting the mile mark in 71st place was able to hold off a surging field finishing 71st on the day out of 145 runners.
