Female high school student works on grid drawing of a cat as part of their focus on realistic drawings.

In Studio Art class with Ms. Patteson, high school students have been working on making realistic drawings. During this class, some students continued to work on their grid drawings – a method in which the object being drawn is viewed as if seen on a grid of squares, with students “copying” the lines inside each, square by square, to re-create the object on paper. Other students were completing an assignment in which they named and simulated various textures in pencil. To prepare for a new assignment, Ms. Patteson worked with individual students to arrange items of the student’s choice to take a photograph with an interesting composition. The photo will be used as a model for their next realistic drawing project.
