The Avon Central School District’s Board of Education recently identified two facilitators to lead a stakeholder panel tasked with meeting the New York State Education Department’s recent directive to all school districts to address the use of Indigenous names and imagery. Dr. James Colt and Mr. Timothy Hayes were identified to lead the effort that will culminate with recommendations to the Board of Education.
Avon Board of Education President and Area 2 Director to the New York State School Boards Association, Mr. Rodney George, commented: “Both facilitators are past and current educators and life-long residents of Avon. Their prior roles, experiences, and community connections will help them to lead this important community process.”
