For the modified sport seasons, the middle school is requiring student athletes to either attend an after school study hall or to go home at the end of the school day at 2:30 pm. This study hall was created so that middle school students would have a safe place to go to after school before team practices began. In the past, this study hall was not a true study hall in that students were allowed to talk quietly with their friends and if they wanted they could work on homework assignments. This year the study hall expectations will change. Students will be expected to either do their homework and/or read quietly.
The student-athlete study hall will be held in the middle school cafeteria Monday through Thursday from 2:30 until 3:30 pm. Immediately following eleventh period, students will have five minutes to get their materials and go to the study hall. During that time, Students should use the bathroom (if needed), get a drink and snacks, and retrieve any supplies from their lockers that they will need. Students will not be allowed to leave the study hall once they sign in at 2:30 pm. Student expectations for being in the student-athlete study hall are as follows:
- Students will abide by the BRAVES Expectations established for the classroom setting.
- Students will report to the cafeteria with their materials by 2:30 pm.
- Students will sign the attendance sheet when they first enter the cafeteria.
- Students will independently work on homework assignments or quietly read.
If your child needs to spend the Advisement Period with a teacher, then he/she will need to obtain a pass from that teacher during the school day and then bring the pass to the study hall supervisor at the beginning of the Advisement Period to obtain permission from him/her to leave the study hall. If you are allowing your child to go home at the end of the school day due to a medical appointment or family function, then you must write a note to the study hall supervisor stating that you are giving your child permission to leave school to go home before practice. Please Note: If the study hall supervisor does not know where your child is from 2:30 until 3:30 pm, then your child’s coach will be notified. The coach will then tell your child that he/she cannot practice or play in game on that particular day.
Thank you in advance for your support in keeping your child safe. Attached is a contract for you to sign. Please have your son/daughter return the signed contract to school on the first day of school. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 226-2455, extension 1426.
Respectfully,
Jennifer Miller
