Welcome to
Avon Middle School

"I have a theory that if one person can go out of their way to show compassion then it will start a
chain of reaction
of the same." - Rachel Scott

On behalf of the Avon Middle School Community, I would like to welcome you to the middle school webpage.  Avon Middle School is home to 316 students in grades 5-8.  The middle school includes:  40 Teachers (some shared between the primary school and high school buildings), 9 paraprofessionals, 6 support staff members (cafeteria, buildings & grounds, and clerical), 2 Reading Specialists (5-6 / 7-12), a Library Media Specialist, a School Nurse, a School Counselor, a School Psychologist (K-8), a School Social Worker (K-12), a Speech and Language Therapist (5-12), and a School Based Preventative Services Case Worker with the Department of Social Services (K-12).

At Avon Middle School, we are committed to providing a safe environment for all students to achieve to the best of their ability.  Students, staff, and the community work together to help every child realize their full potential to become responsible citizens and life-long learners.  We are very proud of the programs and initiatives that we have implemented at the middle school and the academic successes that we have achieved. PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) is just one example that illustrates our commitment to improving the learning environment at Avon Middle School.  The implementation of PBIS or as we refer to it as the BRAVES WAY has allowed us to maintain and foster a positive, safe, and academically challenging learning environment at the middle-level.  (Please use the links below to learn more about PBIS and its implementation at the middle school).

In addition to the implementation of PBIS, we are very proud of our academic accomplishments, especially in the areas of mathematics and English Language Arts instruction.   In comparison to state and county averages on the English Language Arts, and mathematic assessments our students did very well.

As a middle school, we realize that we have a lot of work to do in order for to have 100% of our students achieving proficiency on these state-level assessments. We also realize that in order to maintain a positive and safe learning environment, we must continue to implement strategies and programs that address the social and emotional, as well as the academic needs, of our students. The middle school staff is committed to improving instructional practices and maintaining a professional learning community, so that students are prepared for the challenges that they will face in high school and in life.
