Incoming Kindergarten Orientation 2010
|
|
Beginning in March, a lengthy process is used to transition students to kindergarten. Kindergarten registration is the first step and takes place in early March. In order to register, families must bring in completed registration packets, birth certificate and immunization records. A Parent Information Night will be held at the beginning of May.(May 3, 2010 at 7 PM) This is for parents and guardians only. Our kindergarten teachers, special-area teachers, and staff members are there to introduce themselves and to discuss the kindergarten program. There is also a time for questions and answers. At this time parents receive a packet of information that hopefully answers many of the questions they have. You can access a copy of the packet below. Before the start of the following school year students are screened using an assessment tool called the Dial-3. It takes approximately forty-five minutes to complete. Parents typically will sign up for screening during the May orientation program. During screening students are given a number of tasks to complete. This information gathered helps us to learn about your child’s learning strengths and areas in need of development. This is our way of getting to know your child as a learner prior to their first day of school. Kindergarten Summer Orientation takes place at the end of the summer, just prior to the opening of school. This gives children a chance to walk through the halls with their parent, go to their new classroom and meet their teacher. Parents are notified of teacher assignment in early August at the latest. A packet of information for parents is available by clicking on the related file below.
