Building excellent character in our students is important to the teachers and staff at Avon Primary School. As part of our PBIS/BRAVES initiative we have incorporated our Student of the Month Program to help us teach students about different character traits and behavior expectations. Each month is assigned a specific character trait. Throughout the month, students learn about the identified trait and discuss behaviors that exhibit this trait. Students are encouraged to practice showing good character at school, at home, and in their community.
Teachers and staff watch for students who can be chosen as Student of the Month for demonstrating the monthly trait on a consistent basis. During the last week of the month, one student from each class is honored for exemplifying the monthly trait. These students are chosen based on teacher and staff input.
Below is a list of the character traits for each month of the 2010-2011 school year. We hope this will help you and your child understand the traits we look for when the students are chosen each month.
